David Barclay and Dr Stephen Page reappointed as Trustees of the British Library
The Culture Secretary has reappointed David Barclay and Dr Stephen Page as Trustees of the British Library for four more years, to 25 January 2019. David Barclay has 30 years’ experience in strategic corporate finance while Dr Stephen Page is a leading expert in managing innovation, value and risk, particularly in businesses which depend on technology. The British Library (BL) is the national library of the United Kingdom and one of the world’s largest libraries. Its collections include more than 150 million items, in over 400 languages including books, magazines, manuscripts, maps, music scores, newspapers, patents, databases, philatelic items, prints and drawings and sound recordings. It is an executive non-departmental public body, sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media & Sport.
About David Barclay
David Barclay has 30 years’ experience in strategic corporate finance. He was a Royal Institution Australian Science Scholar in 1971, and studied Natural Sciences and English at Cambridge University. Initially joining the Civil Service, with a spell as Private Secretary in No10 Downing Street, he moved to NatWest Markets in 1985 and became its Head of Corporate Finance. In 1998 he joined Dresdner Kleinwort and held successive positions as Head of UK Corporate Finance, Head of European Corporate Finance, and Vice Chairman which he held until 2005. From 2006 to 2014 he was non-executive deputy chairman of the John Lewis Partnership. He is also Senior Independent Director of Wessex Water Services Ltd (since 2006) and Wates Construction Ltd (since 2012).
About Dr Stephen Page
Dr Stephen Page is a leading expert in managing innovation, value and risk, particularly in businesses which depend on technology. He brings more than 30 years of strategy and change management experience. He has shaped and led complex, mission-critical IT - and the businesses which rely on it - as board member, change leader, adviser and responsible executive.
Dr Page was previously Accenture’s global leader for IT/digital strategy consulting, and transformation of clients’ IT capabilities. He led business change implementation in 24 countries and in almost all industry sectors; and shaped outsourcing deals, commercial transactions, and shared services. He also held the global role of Growth & Strategy Director for Accenture Technology Consulting, a $1.4bn business with 3,500 employees in 45 countries.
Dr Page left Accenture in 2009 to embark on a non-executive career, with a particular focus on the boardroom issues of the digital age. He is a non-executive director of the National Crime Agency, a senior advisor to PwC, and has held a number of other significant roles with government and private sector businesses. He was trained as a historical musicologist; was a Commonwealth Scholar and a member of the Oxford University Computing Laboratory; and is a professionally-qualified photographer.
