Diversity UK launches £10K fundraising appeal to avoid closure

Diversity UK, a champion for equality and inclusion, is facing a critical juncture. Established in 2012, Diversity UK has been at the forefront of racial and gender diversity research and advocacy notably within the workplace. However, without immediate financial support from individuals like you, we are at risk of closure.

In 2022, we celebrated our tenth anniversary, commemorating a decade of impactful milestones, including the publication of our ground-breaking research report, ‘Beyond the Glass Ceiling’. This report shed light on the lack of representation on public sector boards, sparking essential conversations and driving tangible change. We also founded the annual Paul Stephenson Lecture on race equality, keeping the topic centre stage in Britain, and we launched the flagship Diversity Tech Summit and Asians in Tech initiative to support under-represented founders.

Help Us Keep Diversity UK Alive!

However, despite our unwavering commitment and the invaluable contributions of our volunteers, we find ourselves in a dire situation. Due to a lack of sponsorship and donations, we are now on the brink of closure. However, we are determined that our journey is far from over and are launching a £10,000 fundraising appeal to ensure our continued existence and ability to carry out vital work. Your donation, no matter how big or small, will make a tangible difference in ensuring that Diversity UK can continue its vital work on diversity and inclusion.

100% of your contributions are used for charitable purposes and will directly support:

  • Campaigning for race equality
  • Ensuring our events remain accessible to all, fostering true inclusion
  • Conducting crucial research on race and gender issues in the UK
  • Challenging biases entrenched within workplace cultures
  • Advocating for under-represented founders in the technology sector

Lopa Patel MBE, Chair of Diversity UK, emphasises, "Like many charities, Diversity UK is grappling with the challenges posed by the cost of living crisis and dwindling financial support. Yet, unlike others, we have never relied on government funding, relying instead on the kindness and generosity of individuals and trusts. Now, we implore the public to rally behind us once more to avert the looming threat of closure."

Our fundraising appeal coincides with the tenth year of our flagship Asians in Tech initiative, which has been instrumental in empowering under-represented founders to secure funding and scale their ventures. Ramesh Vala CBE, Deputy Chair of Diversity UK, stresses, "The need for our work has never been more urgent. If we fail to support ethnic start-up founders and women entrepreneurs, the economic repercussions for our country will be profound. With over a decade of experience and a proven support model, Diversity UK is poised to make a lasting impact. Now is the time for companies, organisations, and individuals to stand with us."

We understand that times are tough for many, but we urge you to consider the profound impact of your contribution. Please join us in our mission to uphold diversity, equity, and inclusion. Visit our fundraising page on GoFundMe and donate whatever amount you can to help us reach our £10,000 target. Together, we can ensure that Diversity UK continues to be a beacon of hope for a more inclusive and equitable Britain.
