Executive search firm Green Park launched the Top 100 BAME Leaders in Business 2018 index on Thursday 11th October 2018 at the Speaker’s House, London. Raj Tulsiani, CEO of Green Park, concluded Green Park's BAME 100 launch event with a powerful speech about the need for the UK to celebrate and cultivate black, Asian and minority ethnic talent to succeed in post-Brexit Britain. “We simply cannot allow a generation of talent to be wasted and disengaged, to fail in management due to a lack of support, or for our best executive talent to be exported because progression is perceived to be blocked,” he said.

Recent announcements by the Prime Minister on ethnic pay gap reporting are to be welcomed and we are particularly delighted to see one of the judges of our Top 100 BAME Leaders in Business - Karen Blackett - appointed to be the national race champion. Karen is one of Britain’s inspirational leaders and a good friend to Green Park, but even she needs the tools to succeed in this very difficult task. And she needs to supported by all of us, including by the Government, with the necessary resources and authority. Otherwise, it will be like a football team buying Lionel Messi and instead of asking him to play the dazzling football we know he can, having him conduct the band at halftime.”

About the Top 100 BAME Leaders in Business 2018 index

According to Green Park’s research, there has been an 18% decrease over the past year in the number of Black, Asian & Minority Ethnic (BAME) leaders occupying Chair, CEO & CFO positions. The third annual ‘Top 100 BAME Leaders in Business’ report highlights this lack of an ethnic minority representation in senior leadership positions, as BAME professionals still face a number of challenges and barriers in and out of the workplace.

The Top 100 BAME Leaders in Business report is designed to showcase the talent, experience and expertise of ethnic minority board-ready leaders who are chronically underrepresented in most of Britain’s biggest organisations across the private, public and third sector organisations. It is also the recognition and celebration of much-needed role models who lead by example, driving social and cultural change by actively reaching out to communities, using their skills and networks to transform lives.

Judges for this year's list included Natasha Adams, Chief People Officer, Tesco Group; Karen Blackett OBE, WPP UK Country Manager, MediaCom UK Chairwoman; Amee Chande, Non-Executive Director, BBA Aviation Plc; Sir Kenneth Olisa OBE, Chairman, Restoration Partners and David Tyler, Chairman, J Sainsbury Plc.
