Prime Minister creates digital taskforce
The Digital Economy Unit moves fully into the Department of Culutre, Media and Sports (DCMS) as the Prime Minister creates a dedicated taskforce on digital to be chaired by the Minster Ed Vaizey. The unit will still work closely with the Department for Business, Innovation and Skills (BIS) though Ed Vaizey, whose position remains a joint ministerial post between BIS and DCMS.
'Responsibility for the Digital Economy Unit will transfer from being jointly held between the Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport to being the responsibility solely of the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, with policy responsibility transferring accordingly. The Unit will retain strong links with the Department for Business through the Minister for Culture and the Digital Economy, which is a joint Ministerial post. This change will be effective immediately'
Additionally there are reports in the media of a new 'Digital Implementation Taskforce' from No.10 and the Cabinet Office, of which formal notices are expected over the coming weeks. It is anticipated that this taskforce will build upon the work of the 'Digital Ministers Taskforce' and align with the work of the Digital Economy Council.
