Diversity UK exceeds its £10K fundraising appeal target

Thanks to the generosity of corporate and private donors, Diversity UK has exceeded its £10K fundraising appeal target. A couple of months ago Diversity UK, a champion for equality and inclusion, faced a critical juncture. Without immediate financial support, it was at risk of closure. However, following the launch of its first ever appeal on fundraising platform GoFundMe in March 2024, donations helped it reach a target of £11,026, exceeding its original target of £10,000.

Established in 2012, Diversity UK has been at the forefront of racial and gender diversity research and advocacy notably within the workplace.

In 2022, we celebrated our tenth anniversary, commemorating a decade of impactful milestones, including the publication of our ground-breaking research report, ‘Beyond the Glass Ceiling’. This report shed light on the lack of representation on public sector boards, sparking essential conversations and driving tangible change. We also founded the annual Paul Stephenson Lecture on race equality, keeping the topic centre stage in Britain, and we launched the flagship Diversity Tech Summit and Asians in Tech initiative to support under-represented founders.

How your donations are used

Your donation, no matter how big or small, will make a tangible difference in ensuring that Diversity UK can continue its vital work on diversity and inclusion.

100% of your contributions are used for charitable purposes and will directly support:

  • Campaigning for race equality
  • Ensuring our events remain accessible to all, fostering true inclusion
  • Conducting crucial research on race and gender issues in the UK
  • Challenging biases entrenched within workplace cultures
  • Advocating for under-represented founders in the technology sector

Lopa Patel MBE, Chair of Diversity UK, emphasises, "Like many charities, Diversity UK is grappling with the challenges posed by the cost of living crisis and dwindling financial support. Yet, unlike others, we have never relied on government funding, relying instead on the kindness and generosity of individuals and trusts. We have been blown away by the kindness and generosity of our private donors and to all the corporate donors who have stepped in to support us. "

Our fundraising appeal coincided with the tenth year of our flagship Asians in Tech initiative, which has been instrumental in empowering under-represented founders to secure funding and scale their ventures. Ramesh Vala CBE, Deputy Chair of Diversity UK, stresses, "The need for our work has never been more urgent. If we fail to support ethnic start-up founders and women entrepreneurs, the economic repercussions for our country will be profound. With over a decade of experience and a proven support model, Diversity UK is poised to make a lasting impact. We are grateful to the companies, organisations, and individuals who stand with us."
